Parenting Inside Out
Strengthening Family Bonds Across Barriers
Parenting Inside Out (PIO) is a nationally recognized, evidence-based parenting program specifically designed for incarcerated parents. Developed by Oregon Social Learning Center, PIO teaches effective parenting skills, helps parents understand child development, and prepares them for successful reunification with their children after release.
The program addresses the unique challenges faced by incarcerated parents — including maintaining meaningful relationships with children despite physical separation, navigating the family court system, and building the skills needed to be an effective parent upon release. PIO has been shown to improve parenting knowledge, reduce recidivism, and strengthen family bonds.
